JEWLERY BOX

  • Paddock/ Inner Lining
  • Poplar/ Handle
  • #8 1/2 Countersunk Screw

In this project, we explore the simplicity and sophistication of creating a wooden box. The goal of this project, like many others, was to learn a new woodworking technique—specifically, miter joints. Miter joints complement the waterfall construction method applied in this project, allowing the grain of the wood to run continuously throughout the box without interruptions.

However, a challenge arose when creating the miter joints: achieving precise 45-degree cuts. Several factors, such as blade alignment, workpiece movement, and tear-out, can contribute to this issue. Any significant variance in these factors can prevent the sides from joining together seamlessly. Truth be told, some inconsistencies occurred during this build; however, it was nothing YouTube and a screwdriver couldn’t.

Learning to cut miter joints is a valuable skill that will undoubtedly contribute to more significant projects in the future. Stay tuned for further woodworking projects!
